BYOND Name: Jakobplatz
Reason Banned: You, or another user of this computer, (Jakobplatz) is banned from playing Captain. The ban reason is:
Changed the AI laws 4nr, with one of the excuses "The shift is about to end anyway", as well as breaking open the antique laser gun for "protection".
This ban was applied by MrJWhit on 2019-07-19 05:39:53.
Admin who banned: MrJWhit
Length Banned: Perma
Appeal Reason: "-- Administrator private message --
Admin PM from-MrJWhit: You are the captain, you have access literally everything, including tasers the most powerful weapon available, the gun isn't a defensive item. Besides, taking the gun is the defintion of metagaming because of rule 5 "Hiding grand theft objective items". This is the second time you have messed up as a captain with a heavy note implying a jobban if you mess it up again. I'm going to follow through with that.

1. Metagaming in regards to SS13 means using any information that you might acquire from sources outside of your in-character means. This include any out of character paterns (e.g., characters who often roll antag, the round type, etc), third-party communications (e.g., IM over Discord, VOIP, etc), or pre-emptive preparation without knowing there is a threat.
Keep in-character information out of OOC and vice-versa.
1. Do not use third-party IM or voice programs to communicate with someone about in-game information.
2. Do not multi-log/multi-key; i.e., playing on the server with two (or more) accounts.
3. Do not meta-grudge; i.e., attacking or griefing another player for an infraction from a previous round or because of a personal vendetta.
4. When your character dies and is cloned, you are allowed to remember everything up until the point you black out.
5. Do not intentionally kill yourself (e.g., by running out of an airlock) to circumvent the restrictions placed on ghost roles for suicide. If you wish to play ghost roles, it is far easier to simply observe.
Hiding grand theft objective items because you know it's a secret round. Unacceptable.
Searching someone for antagonist items without a clear or justifiable reason to search them. Unacceptable.
Knowing how to do a task that's technically outside your department's job description. Acceptable.
The Gun is an issue in the Job Ban because of the ambiguity of the Rules in its use against Me. The Sentence provided by "MrJWhit" Entails an incomplete Statement of the Rules and use of a said incomplete statement of the Rules to enforce the Job ban which if the Rule is used correctly does not make it an applicable offense. The Round was Clearly a Green one given by the first Centcom Message and its two-hour-long time. This Oversight Technically Clears me of that Offense.
2. Changing of the AI Laws.
4. As a member of the crew, you should maintain the professionalism, work ethic, and probable training you would expect to have in a real setting.
This Rule in the,"Rule 03: Stay in-character." Section Was the basis of MrJWhit's Argument against My changing of the AI's Laws from The Basic Lawset to the Corporate Lawset. I unfortunately didn't copy what MrJWhit wrote. My response, However, went like this: The Changing of the AI's Laws from The Basic Lawset to the Corporate Lawset was justified in its encouragement of professionalism and Work ethic and The Probable training of Captain of a Corporation would revolve around Saving the corporation as much as possible on expenses and the like. This is what the Purpose of the Corporation Lawset is: To Save Money. On the actual Ban I said,"The shift is about to end anyway" to Chase Redtail as a Quick response to Shy them away from the AI Law Change. That excuse holds no water and should not be used in the Job Ban.
Thank you for Reading this Job Ban Appeal and if you can look through the other Notes I have and include the," heavy note implying a jobban if you mess it up again." That would be Great. I would also like to add that whenever I play in SS13 I try to be as close to the "Book" as I can to avoid things like this and Final Thanks.

No dude, do not intentionally secure grand theft items without an actual need. See: Using the antique gun to combat a station wide threat in a red alert scenario, if someone already stole it/tried to steal it (Note: TRIED TO STEAL THE GUN IN A TANGIBLE WAY LIKE A TRAITOR TRYING TO SMASH IT AFTER EMAGGING IN OR SOMEONE BREAKING IN AND TRYING TO BREAK THE CASE, not just broke into your office), or if repairing your office after a break in 1is NOT an option (which it was that round), etc etc. Someone breaking in once isn't a reason. It became textbook rules lawyering the moment you said "Technically clears me".
On the lawset I'd say it's outright bad form to change laws and then ICly give the crew bullshit about it as captain. What need was there to change laws? Making the AI ridiculously uptight about expenses isn't going to help anyone when there's a reason we have the default lawset be crewsimov. You've had so many warnings in the past for head of staff issues, you aren't even following the book as closely as you can, you're outright rules lawyering. Consider that every situation is different, there's no one "book" that tells you the right thing to do in every scenario. If you've caused a mutiny with the AI laws change, maybe you should reconsider changing the AI's laws with that kind of excuse when it pissed everyone else off.

Re: [Main] - (Perma) (Job Ban) Appeal for [Captain Job Ban]
Kevin pretty much covered my thoughts, but I'd like to add one thing. "The shift is about to end" is a terrible excuse for doing anything that shouldnt be done in the first place. Randomly relawing the AI without a DAMN good reason and then trying to hide behind the extremely flimsy excuse of "Well, as a captain, I was only trying to save the company money" isnt anywhere near of a good enough IC justification to allow you to change the AI laws and not get in trouble for it. I think the banning admin went pretty easy on you, because with a previous, and apparently pretty serious note about poor captain behavior, I'd have probably given you a full headban, instead of just a ban for captain. Your appeal also reeks of rule lawyering and for that alone I would be against lifting the ban
