by Mr.Daniel
BYOND Name: Rookwood

Reason Banned: Troll

Admin who banned: Talkingcactus

Length Banned: Permanent

Appeal Reason:

Well, let me first start by saying that the reason this was brought about was that I attempted to kill myself, to which I was questioned by the admin in the form of; -- Administrator private message --

Admin PM from-TalkingCactus: Why did you try to kill yourself?.

To which I responded

PM to-Admins: Because since Daniel was born, he was beaten by his parents, after eventually growing up and fleeing from his family, he enlisted in the space marines.#There he'd be taught how to be a man, his first deployment was on alpha centari 112B, he was being forced to put down a small xeno rebellion encited by the unfair treatment of xeno slaves by the humans.##It was at this time that Daniel saw action had to put down several small xeno children, and also saw several of his space marine pals get gunned down, thusly forming many psychotic breaks in his demeanor.##After following directive after directive, order after order, Daniel climbed through the ranks and became an officer in the Space Marines, thanks to his cruel ways.##But deep down on the inside he was still human, and even he couldn't escape from his conscious##After the war he retired and was commissioned as a Captain of Asteroid Death Trap Zeta##It is here that his depression and PTSD have slowly been eating at him and thusly why he tried to kill himself

To which he responded

-- Administrator private message --

Admin PM from-TalkingCactus: Mentally deficient characters are not allowed.

And lastly, I responded with

PM to-Admins: They are now.

And I received

You have been banned by talkingcactus.
Reason: Troll.
This is a permanent ban.

Now I understand a kick, maybe even a job ban, but to permanently ban would obviously be an over reaction.
In any which case, thank you for reading.

So, reviewing what I've learned over it, and your appeal, let's get to it. First and foremost, chances are, you *are* here just to troll, so we'll just say that chances of this being appealed in your favor aren't looking too grand - at best, you'd probably end up headbanned, and pretty much restricted from anything important or critical until your behavior noticeably improved. But with that said, let me get into the *why* here.

First off, this is SS13, not Warhammer 40K, not Colonial Marines server - this is SS13. We have Nanotransen. There are no Space Marines. Second, you joined to basically suicide, is what your answer to why you committed suicide is basically coming up to - just reading it and having been nowhere near dealing with SS13-related stuff (I'm actually playing Fallout, to exhibit how far off I am with doing anything SS13-related), and I could tell you that's obviously what your plan was from the start. On top of that, you were the *Captain*, and even if you gave the best excuse or reason known to man throughout its entire history...you'd still be perma-headbanned at *minimum* until your act visibly improved. Captains are one in a round, and are to make sure the station operates at a stable level, address station threats and emergencies logically, sending people where they need to go as needed (even going so far as to make assistants that happen to know a thing or two about something temporarily work where they would help the station the most), and basically being the one to keep a large station filled with all sorts of people out in space from either devolving into anarchy, the station catching fire, or the more likely situation, everything exploding. Your act with committing suicide for the sake of doing so for "tragic backstory" reasons blatantly shows you were nowhere near meant to even *touch* that role. This comes up as a Rule 4.1 violation, wherein it says: "Do your job; if you take a role in a department you should actually fulfil that role." This also happens to play into Rule 7 as a whole, wherein it says: "If you’re a head of staff, act like one." - Captain is the head of staff to the heads of staff, and thus, should act like such.

Next on the list, what the admin said is true: people who play "mentally deficient" or even "mentally deranged" characters aren't allowed, because the people who make those characters have, through time and again proving nothing but, make them for the sake of being a griefer, with the sole goal of making the round as unfun for everyone else involved because it's all about "muh crazy character don't know better". This comes up as a Rule 4.2 violation, wherein it says: "Remember that you are an employee on a research station, and that your character should fit that role." This also plays into Rule 7 as a whole, stated above.

Next, we come to the point that, you said to an admin that their statement on the matter was invalid, which...let's be real: you really don't backtalk your bosses and then expect to just get away with it. You go to any job, and you backtalk your boss? You're lucky if you still have your job by the end of the day. This plays into Rule 3 as a whole, wherein it states, "Listen to admins." More specific from there, Rule 3.1 ("Admins always have the final say on in-game matters.") and to a degree, the first part of Rule 3.3 ("Be polite and to the point when sending an admin PM, give admins all relevant information that you can."). So, by saying "now mentally unstable characters are allowed" is basically telling an admin that they don't make the rules, you do, and there's nothing they can do about it. When you think about it, that doesn't exactly sound like a very great idea, honestly, and when you consider how an internet troll acts, that fits the bill pretty well - hence why you were labeled as such when the ban was issued.

Not to mention, looking at the notes filed on you, we've got you written down for having barged into private RP scenes for no reason, murdering a person who was under attack by multiple people without context and as a non-antag, then lied about it when questioned about it. The note about the murder came with a ban tagged to it, stating to read the server rules, learn them, and to follow them - which, with this act you displayed, showed you didn't seem to do any of those three things regarding the rules.

So, at the end of the day, you've broken the server rules, showed you had no intention of following them, had the gall to backtalk an admin, and then expect everything to be fine and dandy in the end. So, my ruling on this, personally, is that we'll find someone who'll want to play and follow the rules, that actually will roll Captain and not suicide because of a poorly-written fanfic edgelord backstory being the excuse used for their actions.

This wouldn't alone be a permabannable offense but what did you really expect would happen.
