How long have you played on Citadel?:Â 2017/10/31Â was the first connection. So slightly less than 1 year.
How long have you played SS13?: Started in December of 2016
What is your timezone/general hours of activity?: Atlantic Standard Timezone. Generally on in the evenings, more or less daily. 6PMÂ AST - 4AM AST
Previous SS13 related admin experience: None.
Previous non-SS13 related admin experience: Outside of hosting small minecraft or other game servers among friends. I feel it's worth noting I've worked professionally in customer service for over 1 year. Meaning I've plenty of experience in not only helping to keep people happy and solve problems, but also to ensure company policy and conditions are followed and known in a fair and just way.
Current administrators who have agreed to support your application: Kevinz000, Fauxgolf (Midnight)
Reason for application: I was recommend for the position out of the blue by Kevin. Having taken some time to give it thought, I decided I would take his advice. The reasoning for this being that I not only feel comfortable in dealing with all manners of issues that may present themselves, but I also genuinely care for the community as a whole and only wish to see the best for it. Because of this I feel the best way to keep the problems at bay is to be an administrator myself. Outside of my experience in dealing with heated situations and arguments, I also feel have the mental stamina needed to stay the course long term. Overall I want to help the community in a way that doesn't just involve my wallet or my voice. I feel I can be trusted with the power and uphold the responsibility that come with the position in a way that ensures all members of our community are enjoying their time here.
1. How would you engage with two players having an out of character altercation?
I would politely, yet firmly, inquire as to what the issue is in private. There is no need for anyone else to be involved, as such I would calmly collect both sides of the story and issue before making any kind of decision.
2. What should an admin do if they're involved in a situation that needs admin intervention?
It would depend on the situation. Generally speaking, I feel the best course of action is communication. Politely bwoink the parties involved and tell them to stop what they are doing for now while I figure out the issue. If they refuse to stop and explain I'd have to move to freeze them or some variant to ensure they stop and listen. Generally my style of intervention would be diplomacy first and action second unless it was very, very serious.
3. How should an admin determine in what way to punish someone who breaks the rules?
Justice is never an absolute factor. Meaning each case would need to be treated differently. A punishment should be based on several factors including the player's history of rule breaks, time they've been on the server, and of course the severity of the rule they broke.
4. Under what conditions should an admin de-admin themselves while playing?
The only situation that would come to mind is if the admin found themselves in an altercation with another player such as the situation in question 1. No one can be expected to make a fair judgment of themselves or of others who have wronged them. Admins are still people, after all, and people are not perfect. Knowing when you're not able to make fair judgment is an important skill.
5. What is expected of an admin on Citadel?
An admin on Citadel is expected to not only follow the rules set by the hosts but also to ensure those rules are being followed by others in a fair and reasonable manner. This means ensuring people understand what they've done wrong if they have done anything wrong at all. Admins are also expected to be unbiased when dealing with players and generally act in a calm tone, not letting emotions impact their judgment as best as they can. Finally admins are expected to be an active part of the community, working not only to keep the server in order but also to ensure the game is fun for everyone, not just themselves.
