Reason for application: I strongly believe that main needs more moderation, as I have seen multiple cases of people getting away with doing things they probably should not have. Obviously there is only so much one or two admins and moderators can do, and I wish to help out. I consider myself to be good at giving other people a chance to speak, and at being able to handle a situation rationally. Therefore, I hopefully can quickly deal with people who have ill intentions, while giving those that have good intentions more leniency. Ultimately, my goal is bring more enjoyment to the server and the player base as a whole.
Please answer the following questions to the best of your abilities:
1. How would you engage with two players having an out of character altercation?
This depends exactly on the severity of the altercation. If they are having a reasonably calm conversation or essentially just participating in banter, as long as it defuses in a reasonable amount of time, I'd have no reason to intervene. But if it is something akin to kicking and screaming in the salt mines, I'd obviously intervene. First with a warning telling them to settle it in more direct messages, and if they refuse, mute OOC to give them time to cool down. If they CONTINUE to yell at each other in OOC it may warrant an OOC ban.Â
2. What should an admin do if they're involved in a situation that needs admin intervention?
The last person that should intervene in this situation is someone who is directly involved in it. An admin should never intervene in a situation they are a part of unless they are the only admin available to take care of the situation, and the situation involves blatant griefing. Otherwise the involved admin should seek assistance from an impartial admin.
3. How should an admin determine in what way to punish someone who breaks the rules?
It primarily depends on the severity, the context, the intent, and the overall effect that it had on the game and the people playing it. Intent and context can be derived from the private messages. If the perpetrator is honest and explains the situation, they will get less of a punishment than a perpetrator that is rude and lies. Past activity also has to be taken into consideration.
4. Under what conditions should an admin de-admin themselves while playing?
- They are playing an important role, such as antag, head of staff, or security, that do not allow for distractions.
- There are already multiple other admins or moderators online.
- They do not feel that they would be able to properly perform their job. (Exhaustion, sickness, time constraints, etc.)
To do the job to the best of their ability, to handle situations rationally without bias, to be kind and courtious, to help and provide mentorship to those that need it, and most importantly, to set a good example and do their best to improve the community as a whole.
