Corporate Labor Charter
A company is defined by its people, and products. Those onboard the installation represent Nanotrasen as a corporation.

*CLC.cl.1 Every employee has the right to work, free choice of employment, just and favorable conditions of work, and protection against unemployment.
The Employed Staff are expected to accomplish the installation’s specific directives - whether it may be to scout the local sector, operate a planetary outpost, or to gather resources and artifacts for further operations.
**What it means: Barring an emergency in which you are qualified and able to help provide a safe resolution, you cannot be conscripted or otherwise forced into an occupation that you have no desire or ability to meet the responsibilities of. For example, a Cargo Technician cannot be fired for not following orders to go mining, because that's a completely different job.
*CLC.cl.2 Everyone, without any discrimination, has the right to equal pay for equal work.
**What it means: You cannot be denied equal pay because of your appearance, race, gender, species, or religious affiliation within reason. For example, a Tajaran cannot be paid less just for being a Tajaran.
*CLC.cl.3 Everyone who works has the right to just and favorable remuneration ensuring for himself and his family an existence worthy of a sentient being's dignity, and supplemented, if necessary, by other means of social protection.
**What it means: You are paid a living wage in the form of Thalers via electronic deposit in such a way that you may access and spend those funds freely. You are also granted, if you so desire, certain benefits from the company such as safe and affordable housing at the nearby colony. For example, paying you with commodities such as meat is not permitted (even if you would be okay with being paid in meat).
*CLC.cl.4 Everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation of working hours and periodic holidays with pay.
**What it means: All employees are entitled to break time, vacations, and holidays as outlined in your employee handbook. (( What this actually means OOCly: Nobody can come along and fire you or punish you for not doing your job 24/7 on the server. As long as the needs of your current job are met within reason, and there's no current emergencies, you can run off to do lewds. Just remember to clock out.))
*CLC.cl.5 Everyone has the right to a non-hostile workplace.
**What it means: If Employees feel that they are being harassed, they have the right to quit. A superior also has the right to punish you (up to and including termination) if you are being excessively cruel or combative despite requests to stop such actions. A company may also refuse service to any customers that are being abusive.

Violation of employee labor rights is punishable under Corporate Regulations &sect;123.
* Accomplish the installation’s directives.
* Treat your coworkers with respect.
* Act with responsibility towards your work.
* Work together with departmental staff, and coordinate with your department head.
* Look out for one another - the Frontier is a dangerous place.

Going on break
Remember - You represent the Company, its diversity, and its integrity. Great rewards await those who perform above and beyond in the line of duty!
There are time clock terminals available across the station in areas near the bridge, the bar, and elsewhere. If you plan in advance to go off duty for the rest of the shift, please use these terminals so your job role can be filled in by another crew member.

Clocking out is not necessary if you plan to return to your duties within a half hour. It is, however, still polite to inform your coworkers that you are going on a short break. Intercourse is Prohibited unless clocked out.
Operational Autonomy
Nanotrasen Privacy Policy
Or, 'a sergeant at the front outranks a general in the rear'.

Under normal station operation, the invasion of private areas such as locked dorms, bathrooms, personal offices, personal belongings, personal lockers, or other personal space is highly illegal without consent of the owner or a search warrant. Furthermore, the use of thermal imaging goggles or other artificial means of observing crew in private areas such as tracking devices is also strictly forbidden without explicit consent or warrant, and the tools used to conduct such crimes are considered contraband. If your right to privacy is violated by security or other members of the crew, contact the Colony Director or Central Command to submit an official complaint. If this violation of privacy results in the conviction of a crime, you may be eligible to have the incident voided by order of Central Command and be compensated for wrongful arrest.
Read this clause very carefully before attempting to justify a defense based on it. This is very specific, and is not the 'disagreement clause'.

This privacy policy may at times be suspended for the greater security of the station crew. If heightened security alertness is abused by the command staff, such as failing to lower the alert level after an incident, or raising the alert level when there is no incident, please contract your NanoTrasen Representative as soon as possible.
Nanotrasen Science / Exploration vessels run into a myriad of situations that are hard or counterproductive to legislate around. Even the on-board heads of staff may not know what is best in a given situation when they are not there to see it. As such crewmembers are implicitly granted operational autonomy - in specific cases - to perform their duties to the best of their abilities, even if their judgement call is counter to a command order.

Violation of employee privacy is punishable under Corporate Regulations &sect;221.
* Some examples of where this is relevant:
** An engineer refusing to turn on a system they deem as extremely hazardous to the health of the crew, despite the CE telling them to.
** A security officer or explorer refusing to engage in immediate hostilities when a better outcome for may be reached with different methodologies - and their refusal to do so despite orders does not endanger others.
** A scientist refusing the RD's orders to do something that would endanger the ship as a whole.
** A doctor treating a crewmember with a different method than the CMO's directives to ensure a better outcome for said crewmember.
* This clause will not automatically protect you from prosecution should you choose to disobey command orders.
** Heads of staff are expected to review whether a deviation from orders is valid. Anyone trusted to be a department head should understand that at times, their underlings may remedy a particular problem better than they can.
** If still deemed invalid, it is left to the usual Command staff to determine fault - this usually involves the Captain where one is available.
* Always ascertain intent. this clause is not here to protect those choosing to disobey orders because they do not agree with them, rather than those who disobey orders because those orders were given with imperfect information or compromised judgement.
** Remember: Your head of staff may have good reason to ask for something that is seemingly a bad idea.

Hazardous Area Operations
<span id="dress-code"></span>
Dress Code
It is the duty of every member of the crew to safeguard their life and ensure their own physical wellbeing, first and foremost. However, in the process of performing the duties of their assigned roles, crewmembers are sometimes expected to enter or operate in hazardous environments. When such hazards cannot be avoided, NanoTrasen has allocated the appropriate resources to the crew to mitigate risk.
All crew members and visitors are to wear, at the minimum:
However, in the course of exploration, or for the purposes of recreation, some crew may encounter hazardous environments outside the bounds of standard NanoTrasen protocol. It is the duty of NanoTrasen’s Central Command authorities to ensure that such environments cannot be accessed accidentally by uninformed parties. Should a NanoTrasen employee expressly and of their own will demonstrate their desire to enter a marked hazardous zone, they automatically accept the following provisions:
*Entering a hazardous zone outside of the line of assigned duties waives NanoTrasen Security and Medical forces of any obligation to render aid, up to and including corpse recovery.
*Many hazardous areas have little to no Communications Hub or Suit Sensor Report coverage. As such, there may be no mechanism by which crew wellbeing or position may be tracked, and usual expectations regarding emergency responses are void.
*Hazardous areas are considered to be outside of NanoTrasen’s contraband enforcement regulations. However, returning to a NanoTrasen owned environment with contraband retrieved from hazardous areas is a violation of Corporate Regulations. Any retrieved contraband must be secured and delivered directly to a steward of the Research or Security departments as soon as the crewmember returns from the hazardous area.

Gear Harnesses / Nudity Permits
Those unable to wear standard clothing, or species whose genitalia are otherwise hidden by animalistic features are permitted to use gear harnesses / wear ‘nudity permits’ instead of adhering to the usual dress code.
* This applies only to the cases above. Claiming to be a ‘nudist’ otherwise is not permitted, and attempting to use a harness / nudity permit in that way will net you an Indecent Exposure charge.
* For biologicals, the species in question must be recognized to be omitting genitalia under standard circumstances.
* For synthetics / prosthetic users, the model in question must be clearly robotic. Using Vey-Med and similar brands that closely mimic a biological’s body disqualifies you from this clause.
* Even if this clause applies to you, you are expected to wear clothing if it is not physically inhibiting for you to do so. Professionalism is important.
* The person in question must actually not have visible genitalia for this to apply. Genemods and less standard prosthetics are unfortunately common, and thus exceptions must be made in both directions.

As part of the Corporate Labor Charter, all employees are granted the following rights:
* Employees have the right to equal pay for equal work, without discrimination.
** You cannot be denied equal compensation because of your appearance, gender, genetics, or personal beliefs.
* Employees have the right to adequate compensation and social protection in return for services offered.
** The Company shall provide a wage in the Orion Confederacy’s standard currency of Thalers, and shall provide basic housing for all employees upon request.
* Employees have the right to rest and leisure, as well as reasonable working hours.
** You cannot be fired for not doing your job 24/7. Off-Duty shifts are there for your usage, and vacations are permitted.
* Employees have the right to a non-hostile workplace.
** Harassment cases should be sent to the nearest IAA agent; requesting one via fax is permitted if one does not exist.
* Employees may not be coerced or threatened to provide functions outside of their listed duties.
** If you are employed for a specific function or set of responsibilities, you cannot be conscripted or otherwise forced to do something you are unable to do, barring emergencies for which you are qualified to resolve.

Nanotrasen provides free-of-charge treatment and therapies dedicated to ensuring a positive outcome for employees harmed in the line of duty. Installations are often fitted with expensive, state of the art medical and research facilities to treat any possible injury or affliction sustained in service to the company.
* Most contraband regulations are ignored by the ISD for areas external to the installation. Contraband regulations are there to provide a safe working environment, but given the relative danger of external areas, crewmembers are allowed to carry armaments to defend themselves if they see fit to do so.
** Contraband regulations may still be enforced if there is reason to believe a crewmember is a threat to the safety of others.

Visitors
<span id="sanctioned-visitors"></span>
As our facilities are mainly located in fringe space on the frontier and often act as a gateway to the frontier; as well as some installations being near colonies, such as the NSB Adephagia visitors are expected and common.  There are two types of visitors, those that are pre-authorized and those that are not.
Sanctioned Visitors
Pre-authorized visitors are those that have notified the station in advance.  They are easily distinguished by possessing an ID card.  No special processing is needed for them.  Those that lack an ID are visitors who were not pre-authorized.  Visitors who were not pre-authorized are still welcome to come aboard but must report to the Head of Personnel or Site Director for an identification card denoting them as visitors, upon arrival.  Upon obtaining an ID, they are to be treated as if they were pre-authorized.

Visitors must follow Corporate Regulations, as it applies to everyone.  Visitors are permitted free access to all public areas of the station. In addition, visitors are permitted to enter restricted areas with permission from the relevant Head of Staff or Site Director. The Head of Staff or Site Director retains the right to have the visitor removed from the restricted zone at any time.
Visitors arriving from employee transports or being restored from cryosleep fall under this category.

Vessels docked to the station are not considered part of the station, but their owners are required to follow regulations while docked. The crew may not board a docked vessel not belonging to the station without the consent of the vessel's owner, unless the owner is confirmed to be engaging in acts that threaten the life or liberty of a person, or are otherwise committing a Sol Gov high crime.
These visitors are sanctioned by the Company, and have undergone basic pre-screening. They automatically have permission to stay on the premises.

Dress Code
* Arriving visitors are allowed free access to all public areas, unless explicitly barred by command staff or an employee in charge of said area in the cases of entertainment regions like the Bar.
* Arriving visitors otherwise have the same rights as Employees, even if they lack the same responsibilities as Employees.
* Arriving visitors are subject to the same regulations as Employees, and may be ordered to vacate a specific area or otherwise comply with non-interference during an incident.

All crew members and visitors, with exceptions listed below, are to wear the following at minimum: A shirt that covers the chest, pants, shorts or skirts that go no shorter than two inches above the knee, and some form of foot covering.  Those in departments considered to be emergency services (Security, Medical, Engineering) should wear a marker denoting their department (even if they have a nudity permit!), examples being armbands, uniforms, badges, or other means.  Those in a department are expected to wear clothes appropriate to protect against common risks for the department.  Off duty personnel, visitors, and those engaging in certain recreational areas such as the Pool (if one is available on your facility) have less strict dress code, however clothing of some form must still be worn in public with the exception of a nudity permit, nudity permits are only handed out to species whose genitalia is not visible under normal circumstances or those with acceptable animalistic heritage such as Quadrapeds commonly known as "Taurs", this means for example human "Nudists" are not permitted and cannot legally hold a nudity permit, if someone who does not meet nudity permit criteria holds a nudity permit, the permit is considered nullified and the subject must agree to dress themselves or face a charge of indecent exposure.
<span id="external-visitors"></span>
External Visitors
Certain positions within NanoTrasen are expected to maintain a specific dress code. The strictness of these codes are Enforced, Recommended, and Suggested. They are defined as follows:
Visitors arriving on the installation from a shuttlecraft, pod, or brought back by the crew without prior permit fall under this category.

*Failure or refusal to adhere to an enforced dress code may result in suspension or termination.
Traders, members of other corporations, natives, aliens, colonists, etc, also fall under this category.
**Security staff are enforced to wear Security clothing, or any clothing with dominant colors of red and black, or red and blue. If an individual has a nudity permit, they must at least wear a red security armband, appropriate security-issue outerwear, or a security hat. This is to ensure security is easily identifiable.
**Medical staff are enforced to wear sterile lab clothing while working in Medical facilities. Even if you have a nudity permit, you must cover up with a sterile lab coat and latex gloves while treating patients, if in surgical it is enforced to use a sterile mask to prevent infection as well.
**Science staff enforced to wear the appropriate protective gear for their sub-division while on duty, Xenobiologists must wear a biosuit, Xenoflorists must wear an apron, Xenoarcheologiests must wear a full anomaly suit including hood and goggles whenever handling an anomaly, all other science staff is required to wear protective eyewear, Science goggles and protective outerwear such as a lab coat or cloak. If a VIP is visiting the station, please dress appropriately for your department.

*Failure or refusal to adhere to the recommended dress code may result in suspension or termination only if an accident results from disobeying the dress code.
These visitors are not pre-authorized by the Company. More information on how to handle these situations are in Chain of Command and Security Protocol.
**Engineering staff are recommended but not enforced to wear bright and easily recognizable clothing, such as yellows or oranges, to be easily spotted in case of an emergency.
**Service staff are recommended but not enforced to wear aprons while preparing or harvesting food. Bartenders and waiter staff have no specific dress code, but it is suggested that they agree on similar clothing to wear for the day.

*Failure or refusal to adhere to suggested dress codes are not valid grounds for punishment but may result in a lack of respect from co-workers.
* External visitors may be screened for dangerous weaponry, biohazards, and similar by the Security and Medical departments.
**Cargo/Mining staff are suggested but not enforced to wear uniforms made of highly durable cloth so as to avoid damage caused by physical labor.
* External visitors may be required to stay within a specific area, if reasonable (e.g. asking them to stay within the civillian areas instead of snooping around maintenance).
**Colony Director and Head of Personnel are suggested but not enforced to wear their issued uniforms while on duty, or at least their hats. This is to ensure commanders are easily identifiable.
* External visitors may be expelled from the facility by the authority of Command, or if Command is missing, Security.
** If there is no safe way to do this (e.g. they did not come on their own craft), determine what to do from here. If they are a threat to the crew, there is often sufficient reason for Security to detain them.
* External visitors must request permission to board. Permission to board is considered a privilege, not a right.

Employment Records
<span id="external-officials"></span>
External Officials
All NanoTrasen crew are advised to complete the standard employment record forms provided by the company, and to update them whenever a notable change has occurred. Certain occupations aboard the vessel, including but not limited to all Command positions, require coherent and updated records. Failure to provide the proper documentation may lead to your suspension from active employment. NanoTrasen's standard Employment, Security, and Medical records may be found here.
Diplomats, representatives, and ranking members of any corporation, colony, or group fall under this category.

The accessing, editing, or dissemination of any employee records outside of the proper procedure is considered a breach of confidentiality, and may be grounds for disciplinary action.
* Command is expected to handle any official business. See Chain of Command for details.
* Officials do not have authority over the installation. However, they should generally be allowed free roam of public areas.
* Officials may be treated as external visitors otherwise.

SoP: General

General Expectations

A company is defined by its people, and products. Those onboard the installation represent Nanotrasen as a corporation.

The Employed Staff are expected to accomplish the installation’s specific directives - whether it may be to scout the local sector, operate a planetary outpost, or to gather resources and artifacts for further operations.

  • Accomplish the installation’s directives.
  • Treat your coworkers with respect.
  • Act with responsibility towards your work.
  • Work together with departmental staff, and coordinate with your department head.
  • Look out for one another - the Frontier is a dangerous place.

Remember - You represent the Company, its diversity, and its integrity. Great rewards await those who perform above and beyond in the line of duty!

Operational Autonomy

Or, 'a sergeant at the front outranks a general in the rear'.

Read this clause very carefully before attempting to justify a defense based on it. This is very specific, and is not the 'disagreement clause'.

  • Some examples of where this is relevant:
    • An engineer refusing to turn on a system they deem as extremely hazardous to the health of the crew, despite the CE telling them to.
    • A security officer or explorer refusing to engage in immediate hostilities when a better outcome for may be reached with different methodologies - and their refusal to do so despite orders does not endanger others.
    • A scientist refusing the RD's orders to do something that would endanger the ship as a whole.
    • A doctor treating a crewmember with a different method than the CMO's directives to ensure a better outcome for said crewmember.
  • This clause will not automatically protect you from prosecution should you choose to disobey command orders.
    • Heads of staff are expected to review whether a deviation from orders is valid. Anyone trusted to be a department head should understand that at times, their underlings may remedy a particular problem better than they can.
    • If still deemed invalid, it is left to the usual Command staff to determine fault - this usually involves the Captain where one is available.
  • Always ascertain intent. this clause is not here to protect those choosing to disobey orders because they do not agree with them, rather than those who disobey orders because those orders were given with imperfect information or compromised judgement.
    • Remember: Your head of staff may have good reason to ask for something that is seemingly a bad idea.

Dress Code

All crew members and visitors are to wear, at the minimum:

  • A shirt that covers the chest
  • Pants, shorts, or skirts that go no shorter than two inches above the knee
  • Some form of foot covering

Departmental staff should refer to their department protocols for required apparel. In general, departmental staff should opt to be identifiable.

Exceptions

  • Those engaging in certain recreational activites (e.g. visiting the Pool, Sauna, similar) have less strict dress codes.
  • Off-Duty personnel and visitors have less strict dress codes. They must still abide by regulations regarding indecent exposure.

Gear Harnesses / Nudity Permits

Those unable to wear standard clothing, or species whose genitalia are otherwise hidden by animalistic features are permitted to use gear harnesses / wear ‘nudity permits’ instead of adhering to the usual dress code.

  • This applies only to the cases above. Claiming to be a ‘nudist’ otherwise is not permitted, and attempting to use a harness / nudity permit in that way will net you an Indecent Exposure charge.
  • For biologicals, the species in question must be recognized to be omitting genitalia under standard circumstances.
  • For synthetics / prosthetic users, the model in question must be clearly robotic. Using Vey-Med and similar brands that closely mimic a biological’s body disqualifies you from this clause.
  • Even if this clause applies to you, you are expected to wear clothing if it is not physically inhibiting for you to do so. Professionalism is important.
  • The person in question must actually not have visible genitalia for this to apply. Genemods and less standard prosthetics are unfortunately common, and thus exceptions must be made in both directions.

Employee Rights

As part of the Corporate Labor Charter, all employees are granted the following rights:

  • Employees have the right to equal pay for equal work, without discrimination.
    • You cannot be denied equal compensation because of your appearance, gender, genetics, or personal beliefs.
  • Employees have the right to adequate compensation and social protection in return for services offered.
    • The Company shall provide a wage in the Orion Confederacy’s standard currency of Thalers, and shall provide basic housing for all employees upon request.
  • Employees have the right to rest and leisure, as well as reasonable working hours.
    • You cannot be fired for not doing your job 24/7. Off-Duty shifts are there for your usage, and vacations are permitted.
  • Employees have the right to a non-hostile workplace.
    • Harassment cases should be sent to the nearest IAA agent; requesting one via fax is permitted if one does not exist.

    • If you are employed for a specific function or set of responsibilities, you cannot be conscripted or otherwise forced to do something you are unable to do, barring emergencies for which you are qualified to resolve.

Going Off-Duty

  • It is not permissable to punish an employee for clocking out, unless they do so maliciously (e.g. clocking out whne called for an emergency, and not before).

Employment Records

All Nanotrasen crew are advised to fill out their records forms with HR.

  • All Command positions require coherent and up-to-date records.

  • Personal lockers

These expectations are able to be suspended during emergencies. See Emergency Protocols for more details.

Violations of Privacy Policy, or abuse of alert levels as an excuse to violate privacy without justifiable need must be reported to Central Command with due haste.

Hazardous Operations

Nanotrasen provides free-of-charge treatment and therapies dedicated to ensuring a positive outcome for employees harmed in the line of duty. Willful Peril

Crewmembers are expected to safeguard their life and ensure their own physical, and mental wellbeing. Resources are not guaranteed for those willfully endangering them in a way contradictory to their assigned post and directives.

Entering a hazardous zone or leaving the installation against directives or orders comes with these automatic provisions:

  • When there are insufficient resources, Security and Medical staff are waived from obligation to render aid, up to and including corpse recovery in the event of your demise.
    • Recovery may be extremely dangerous for the personnel involved. Medical staff are not required to put their lives on the line to save yours if you willfully ignore orders.
