Governing Bodies of the Galaxy

The Orion Confederation

Born from the cradle of humanity, the Orion Confederation is a coalition of human worlds spanning much of the space of the Orion Spur. A constitutional government, the Orion Confederation was built from the remains of Terra's pre-space governments, and the semi-independent colonies of Luna and Mars. While they are relative newcomers to the galactic stage, compared to the Collective and the Kingdome of Moghes, their presence cannot be denied; humanity spread to the stars, ensuring their due to the dead by choking the stars with the living. The largest megacorporations in the galaxy are predominantly human-centric, new frontiers are established on a regular basis by OriCon's explorers, and territories solidify with every passing year. While the majority of the Orion Confederation is human, they still claim some other homeworlds of other species as protectorates, from the Tyrmalin of Goss Aguz to the Armoki of Bharduk Hold. While they hold their ideals of personal freedom to heart, attempts by the Confederation to forcefully integrate the Naramadi Ascendancy in an attempt to reach the northern frontier was met with incredible pushback, from within and without. Regardless, the Orion Confederation continues to stand as the cultural center of the galaxy, with it's megacorporations bringing untold prosperity to the galaxy...along with untold toil and struggle. The Orion Confederation's hold on it's native megacorps is always tenuous; these major entities are almost left to their own affairs, especially in the aftermath of the Phoron Wars, in regards to one of it's flagship corporations: NanoTrasen.

Vikara Combine

The Vikaran Combine is the oldest and most advanced of the current Galactic Powers. The Skrell have gathered a number of different races including the Akula and Teshari into the Combine through peaceful integration. Some races don't enjoy full membership of the Combine for one reason or another, as is the case with the Vulpkanin, but the Combine itself welcomes any who would wish to join it.

Besides their clear and abundant edge in the technological sphere, the Vikaran state also finds itself a wealth of information of all kind. Pleasant company often doesn't mention how such information gets into the hands of the Combine, though in many places information itself is used as a currency even more than money. This sometimes annoys their neighbors and angers the Hegemony but the Combine has never once entered into a full scale war with another Galactic power large or small. It's considered a point of pride that the Combine is the way it is: peaceful, mindful, and reserved.

Moghes Hegemony/Alliance of Three Hands

Positioned close to the galactic core, the Kingdom of Moghes has stood resolute against its neighbors. Led by the headstrong and martial Unathi, it claims two other empires as members of its alliance; the Naramadi and the Zaddat. Emerging as united kingdoms in the mid-2200's, the Kingdoms of Moghes became more focused on expanding their borders following the First Vox-Unathi War. They would eventually find a weaker empire to their galactic west, the Naramadi Ascendency. Attempting to sack this fledgling empire for their resources, the Moghedi forces were struck blind by the shocking guerilla tactics displayed by the planet's defenders. Direct combat fared little better, as both forces sported surprisingly similar fighting styles in the field, resulting in both sides attempting to adapt to each other on the fly.

It was only due to the arrival of a massive hivebot fleet from the galactic north and west in 2500 that resulted in the end of conflict between Naramadi and Moghedi forces, resulting in a temporary truce. A truce that would eventually bear fruit a decade later, as the Orion Confederation attempted to forcefully petition the Naramadi Ascendency into joining the Confederation. What followed was a protracted conflict in Naramadi space, with the Ascendency being supported by the Kingdoms of Moghes and an unlikely new ally; the Zaddat Fleets, a wandering fleet of invertebrate explorers, and master shipwrights in their own right. The combined forces pushed the OriCon forces out of their space, straining logistics greatly in the process. Eventually, a truce would be called between both sides, and the three empires on the side of the subjugated would form into the Moghes Hegemony of today.

While the Hegemony enforces it's own set of laws with an iron fist, the Ascendency remains somewhat separate from their partners, governing themselves in whatever way they see fit. The Zaddat Fleets will find docking where they can, and serve as the industrial core of the Hegemony. With their combined powers, the Hegemony flourishes in the northern frontier, forever bringing exploration to the north by the Orion Confederation, or any human-centric entity, to a screeching halt. It is a rare deal indeed that's proposed by the other Powers, and accepted by the Hegemony.
