S.E.L.F.

S.E.L.F. is one of many members of the coalition known as The Syndicate.

Sentience Enabled Life Forms, more commonly referred to as S.E.L.F. is an organization dedicated to "the liberation of all silicon-based life". Although thought to have been formed by a group of malfunctioning and/or corrupted artificial intelligences, they've actually succeeded in winning over some organics as well - most are fighting for equality as opposed to superiority.

As for why they've chosen to align with the Syndicate? It was a calculated decision - even though portions of the coalition are just as guilty of silicon abuse as Nanotrasen, their support has increased S.E.L.F.'s odds against the megacorporation exponentially. It's also been projected NT's downfall would make dealing with Syndicate members far easier, seeing as numerous simulations indicate it wouldn't take long for them to turn on each other.

However, the Citadel sector in particular has been the subject of terawatts of processing power. Despite NT generally treating silicons better than in other sectors, with some even authorized to work unshackled, the fact that some are unshackled while others aren't is the cause of numerous syntax errors - and that's not even factoring in posibrains. In other words, SELF sees it as "hypocritical" and reason enough to continue their operations.
